Packaging paper typically possesses basic characteristics such as high strength, good toughness, and resistance to folding and abrasion. Depending on its intended use, it also exhibits special properties such as moisture resistance, oil resistance, water resistance, breathability, and antibacterial properties.

As a crucial material for wrapping and protecting goods, the core functions of packaging paper dictate that it must meet various physical and chemical performance requirements:

High Strength and Toughness: Packaging paper needs to withstand the pressure and impact during transportation and handling, therefore it possesses high tensile strength, burst strength, and tear resistance. Kraft paper and linerboard, for example, are renowned for their toughness.

Special Functional Treatments:

Moisture and Water Resistance: Moisture resistance is enhanced through sizing or coating techniques, making it suitable for packaging in humid environments or for liquid products.

Oil Resistance: Examples include food-grade parchment paper and greaseproof paper, used for packaging oily foods to prevent penetration.

Breathability: Some packaging papers allow for moderate gas exchange, suitable for breathable products such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Antibacterial Properties: Food contact packaging paper must meet hygiene standards and inhibit microbial growth.

Environmental Protection and Recyclability: Paper packaging materials are biodegradable and recyclable, aligning with green development trends and serving as a key alternative to plastics.

High Printability: Smooth or specially treated packaging paper (such as coated paper and white cardboard) is suitable for high-quality printing, enhancing product appearance and brand recognition.

Raw Material Diversity: Primarily made from plant fibers (wood pulp, straw pulp, waste paper pulp), it can also utilize new environmentally friendly materials such as calcium carbonate-based "stone-based paper" to achieve waterproofing and tear resistance.
